Ultrasound equipment

Ultrasound equipment: more accurate diagnosis!

Equipment originates from shipping, where sound waves were sent from a ship into the sea to measure the depth of the sea. The use of ultrasound in physiotherapy is still relatively new. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves, which humans cannot hear. A transmitter is placed on the skin, which sends out the waves and also immediately receives the waves that are reflected by the body tissue. The various tissues in the body all reflect the sound waves to different degrees. The transmitter passes the reflected sound waves on to the computer, which translates them into electrical signals. These appear on the screen as grayscale, and you see an echo image of the tissues.

Ultrasound at FysioQuesada

FysioQuesada uses High End Ultrasound echo equipment that makes it possible to use sound waves to visualize subcutaneous tissue without harmful side effects.

This can be done with 2 settings. With the ''normal'' echo it is possible to display subcutaneous structures such as tendons, ligaments, joints, nerves on the screen.

For example, the Doppler mode also makes it possible to locate areas of increased blood flow, suspected inflammation, such as Achilles tendonitis or a muscle tear, and to map the severity of an injury.

Just like with a pregnancy ultrasound, you see the moving images immediately on the screen. It is an external method that allows a diagnosis to be made more quickly and the right treatment to be started. This can be physiotherapy, but also shockwave therapy to, for example, crush calcifications in shoulder tendons.

The ultrasound examination is quick, easy, comfortable for the patient and can be repeated as often as necessary.

Because the therapist sees on the screen what happens during a movement and the patient indicates when and with which movement the complaints increase or decrease, an accurate diagnosis is made.

Also during treatment, ultrasound is sometimes used to view the development/decrease of the condition. (see also ESWT).

When is ultrasound used? For certain conditions, the diagnosis can be made more accurately by means of ultrasound.

Ultrasound is used to assess complaints of the musculoskeletal system such as the shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand, hip, knee and ankle.
