Achilles tendonitis

What is Achilles tendonitis?

Achilles tendonitis is a common complaint. Runners, among others, often suffer a lot from Achilles tendonitis, but the complaint of Achilles tendonitis is also common among people who do not do much sports. In short, it is an inflammation of the Achilles tendon that runs from the calf muscle to the heel. It occurs at 2 points: 1. At the attachment of the tendon to the heel bone, sometimes even with bone growth (Haglund's Exostosis) 2. At a height of 9-12 cm from the ground measured in the tendon itself.

Achilles tendonitis and shockwave therapy

Achilles tendonitis can be treated excellently with the High Energy Focused ESWT Shockwave therapy treatment from FysioQuesada.

If you have a lot of trouble with your Achilles tendon, it may not only be inflamed, but there may even be a complete or partial tear in the tendon. It is also possible that there is an inflammation of the bursa under the tendon. The part of the Achilles tendon that is inflamed can be the part above the heel, but a thickening due to swelling can also occur in the middle of the tendon. In this part of the tendon, the blood flow is limited.

Causes

The cause of Achilles tendonitis is usually the same as that of heel spurs, namely overload due to unprepared (i.e. without warming up) sports or by simply wearing the wrong footwear (for a long time). It can be a short-term high overload, or a long-term low overload. In the latter type, calcifications often occur in the tendon. These are also influenced and broken down by the ShockWave. Fortunately, at FysioQuesada we have a lot of experience with both types of Achilles tendonitis, which means we are able to treat you quickly and effectively.

Symptoms of Achilles tendonitis include:

Mild pain in the Achilles tendon that disappears after a few hours. Pain or a severe form of stiffness when standing up. Pain or irritation when walking (both when walking normally and when running). It is also possible that your Achilles tendon feels a bit thicker or swollen. If your Achilles tendon is torn or torn, you can no longer do anything because of the severe pain that occurs and walking is no longer possible. You should contact a specialist at the hospital immediately. Of course, you can always contact us if you have any doubts because Achilles tendonitis, for example, looks a lot like a heel spur complaint.

Achilles tendonitis treatment

If there is a difference in leg length or a sagging foot (to a flat foot position, for example), these should preferably be corrected first. Achilles tendonitis can also be treated well with our Shockwave therapy. After we have recorded the complaints and history during the Intake, we will use our High Tech Echo equipment to determine exactly where your Achilles tendonitis is located and then propose the treatment plan to you.

On average, you will need about 6 to 8 treatments until your Achilles tendonitis symptoms are resolved. The time between treatments is one week because otherwise we would destroy more than we heal. So take into account a Shockwave trajectory of about 5 to 8 weeks.

Do you want to get rid of your Achilles tendonitis quickly? Contact the specialists at FysioQuesada directly and we can quickly get started on your complaints and treatment plan.
