With jaw joint complaints (craniomandibular dysfunction, CMD) we mean the difficulty you can have with, for example: chewing, or opening the mouth and very annoying pain complaints that can manifest themselves anywhere (see photo). Causes The causes of jaw joint complaints are diverse. For example, jaw joint complaints can arise after an operation or due to overload, but sometimes also spontaneously. Jaw joint complaints are annoying, but not dangerous. In addition to the fact that you can have pain in your jaws when chewing and talking, you can also suffer from cracking jaws, pain in teeth and molars, pain in the chewing muscles, headaches and tooth wear. Splint Some people grind their teeth at night. In addition to wear on teeth and molars, this often causes other complaints such as: headaches, muscle pain in the face. This can be prevented with a splint (anti-grinding plate). This plastic plate is slid over the lower and upper teeth. This provides relief to the jaw joint and the patient can no longer slide their teeth and molars over each other.
