PE / EPTE - therapy

PE /EPTE in EPI Therapy

Percutaneous electrolysis helps with (chronic) tendon complaints!

Do you continue to suffer from pain when moving? Or do the complaints keep coming back? Have you perhaps already had therapy without the desired effect? Then electrolysis therapy can help you!

PE / EPTE stands for Percutaneous Electrolysis Therapy [PE for short] and is a treatment method specially developed for the treatment of chronic tendonitis of, for example, the knee, shoulder, elbow and Achilles tendon.

PE in brief

If your therapist has diagnosed chronic tendonitis by means of functional examination and/or ultrasound, he can use EPTE as a treatment method. Under ultrasound guidance, your therapist will insert a thin needle into the site of the inflammation or the overloaded area. The needle is comparable to a needle used in acupuncture. This needle will conduct current precisely into the core of the problem area for approximately 90 seconds. The low-intensity electrical current initiates multiple processes that lead to tissue repair. For example, blood circulation is improved and the pH value (acidity) changes from acidic to neutral. Both reactions stimulate the production of new tendon tissue.

When PE? Have you had one of these complaints for a long time?

Tendons generally recover more slowly than muscles, for example. An overload or inflammation of the tendon can occur in the knee, shoulder and Achilles. Do you have long-term complaints that have been present for more than 3 months? The following conditions are eligible for PE treatment:

• Achilles tendon pain / Achilles tendonitis (achilodynia)

• Chronic shoulder pain (tennis elbow, lateral epicondylitis

• Pain just below the kneecap, knee tendon complaints, patellar tendonitis, jumper's knee

• shoulder complaints, including supraspinatus tendonitis (the calcifications are treated with ShockWave)

Feyk Hogenbirk is a specially trained muscle-tendon expert and can help you with an effective combination of therapies, such as electrolysis combined with exercises to make the tendon resilient again.

''I am so glad that I am freed from that chronic Achilles pain. I can walk the dog again without pain and can even practice my favorite hobby of running again!''

Benefits of PE

• accurate localization by ultrasound

• the healthy tissue is spared

• high success rate

• the treatment is effective very quickly, often with less pain soon after.

After just two or three treatments, it is expected that the pain will be reduced and the load can be slowly built up again. In order to achieve 100% load, approximately 6 to 8 more treatments must take place, usually in combination with an exercise program.

  • What is percutaneous electrolysis?

Percutaneous electrolysis is an innovative treatment method for long-term, poorly healing tendon complaints.

  • When does PE help?

Have you had one of these complaints for a long time? Then percutaneous electrolysis could be the solution for you!

  • How does the treatment work?

Contact gel is applied to the treatment area. Using ultrasound, the therapist can see exactly what the correct location is to insert the thin needle. You can watch the ultrasound image.
