Manual therapy is a specialization within physiotherapy. It is always a treatment method that directly affects the joints of our body, especially those of the spinal column. In my view, it is an integrated system and cannot be seen separately from physiotherapy. During a treatment, physiotherapy and manual therapy often run through each other.
Many systems have been developed worldwide, to which just as many names are linked. However, the essence is often the same. Central to all forms of manual therapy is the improvement of joint movements in the entire body. At FysioQuesada, the Maitland method is used. This always starts with "soft", springy pressure techniques, and sometimes (but certainly not always necessary) ends with a quick movement to remove the remaining blockage. ("Cracking")
Manual therapy can help with all complaints that have to do with (restricted) movement of the body. Examples of these complaints are:
If you are unsure whether manual therapy in Doetinchem is something for you, please contact us. Based on your complaints and wishes, we will decide whether this treatment is something for you, or whether another treatment suits you better.
The treatment of manual therapy in Doetinchem can consist of specific hand grips performed with repeated soft pressure or pulling movements on the spinal column. Sometimes dosed impulse techniques are also used, during which a "popping" or "cracking" sound is heard. This is usually in the final phase of the treatment, when there is still a hard restriction of movement. However, this is often not necessary. In such cases, the patient performs specific movements on the instructions of the therapist to maintain and/or improve the regained mobility. After each treatment, the result is assessed. If necessary, the treatment is adjusted.
The symptoms may decrease immediately after the treatment, or a few days later. There may be some fatigue, headache, nausea, muscle pain or some increase in symptoms in the first few days after the treatment. Do not worry about this. These reactions are temporary and normal.
If after examination it appears that additional diagnostics (such as ultrasound, X-ray, laboratory, etc.) are desirable, the referring physician will be contacted. If after examination it appears that treatment is useful, the treatment plan will be established, with an explanation to the patient.
At Fysiotherapie Doetinchem you can go for all kinds of treatments. Would you like to make an appointment for manual therapy in Doetinchem? Register now.
